About AI Metadata Cleaner
Our Mission
AI Metadata Cleaner was created with a simple yet important mission: to give users complete control over the metadata embedded in their digital media. In an era where AI-generated content is becoming increasingly prevalent, the line between human-created and machine-generated content is being drawn through invisible metadata tags that most people don't even know exist.
We believe that every creator — whether they use AI tools, traditional cameras, or a combination of both — deserves the right to manage how their content is identified and classified. Our tool empowers users to inspect, clean, or customize the hidden data attached to their photos and videos.
Whether you're a professional photographer wanting to add consistent copyright metadata, a digital artist who uses AI as one tool in your creative process, or simply someone concerned about privacy — AI Metadata Cleaner is built for you.
Our Core Values
Privacy First
Your files never leave your device. All processing happens locally in your browser using JavaScript. We don't have servers that process your media — because your data is none of our business.
Transparency
Our tool shows you exactly what metadata exists in your files before any changes are made. You decide what stays, what goes, and what gets added. No hidden agenda, no opaque processing.
Speed & Simplicity
No sign-ups, no accounts, no downloads required. Just drop your file, choose your action, and download the result. The entire process takes seconds, not minutes.
Accessibility
AI Metadata Cleaner is free to use, works on any modern browser, and requires no technical knowledge. We believe privacy tools should be accessible to everyone, not just tech-savvy users.
User Respect
We don't track you, profile you, or sell your data. Our analytics are minimal and anonymous. We respect your time with a clean, ad-minimal experience.
Technical Excellence
Built with modern web technologies including Next.js, TypeScript, and established EXIF/XMP libraries. We aim for the highest Lighthouse scores and Web Core Vitals compliance.
Understanding AI Metadata in the Modern Web
The digital landscape is rapidly evolving. With the rise of powerful AI image generators like Stable Diffusion, DALL-E 3, Midjourney, Adobe Firefly, and others, a new category of metadata has emerged. Standards like C2PA (Coalition for Content Provenance and Authenticity) and IPTC's Digital Source Type are being adopted by major platforms to automatically label AI-generated content.
Social media platforms including Instagram, Facebook, X (Twitter), and LinkedIn have begun reading these metadata fields to add "AI Generated" labels to posts. While this serves the goal of transparency, it doesn't account for the nuanced reality of modern creative workflows where AI is used as one of many tools.
A photographer might use AI for noise reduction, an artist might use AI for initial sketches that they then heavily modify, or a designer might use AI upscaling on their own hand-drawn illustrations. In these cases, the automatic "AI Generated" label may misrepresent the nature of the work. Our tool helps creators maintain accurate representation of their creative process.
Technical Background
AI Metadata Cleaner is built as a Single Page Application using Next.js with the App Router pattern. All media processing is performed client-side using established JavaScript libraries:
- exifr — For reading EXIF, XMP, IPTC, and ICC metadata from images
- piexifjs — For writing and removing EXIF data in JPEG files
- Canvas API — For stripping metadata from PNG and WebP files through re-rendering
The application uses no backend servers for file processing. The only server communication is for serving the static web application files themselves. This architecture was chosen deliberately to maximize user privacy and minimize operational costs, allowing us to offer the tool for free indefinitely.
